Weekly Round-Up: July 8, 2013

Weekly Roundup

It seems like everyone is running at warp speed this summer. And I don’t know about you, but I could use a vacation. I’d like to help finance your summer fun through the Summer Lovin’ Giveaway. One lucky winner will have an extra $480 to spend this summer. You can enter at the bottom of the post.

Since summer vacation is on my mind, I wanted to share a fun infographic I stumbled upon. It makes me sad to see so Americans don’t use all of their allotted vacation days, even though I’ve been guilty of doing that too. But we earned them. We need the break!

A Few Good Reads

Here are a few of my favorite reads from the past week. Enjoy!

Matt at Mom and Dad Money encouraged us to Stop Focusing on the Negatives and Start Enjoying Life. I couldn’t agree more.

John over at Frugal Rules counseled those Paying Off Debt while Dealing with Debt Fatigue. He has some stellar tips to keep you in the game.

If you’ve been on the fence on whether to purchase life insurance, Grayson at Debt Roundup has two words for you: Zombie Apocalypse!

Vanessa at Cash Cow Couple shared 5 Reasons Why I Love Frugality. I appreciate how Vanessa and Jacob choose to live an ultra-frugal lifestyle and always seem to have a good time.

Brian at Luke 1428 asked What to Influence Others? Lead by Example. So true. Words alone are not enough. But demonstrating the right behavior—now that carries weight.

And finally, I have to leave you with a guest post from my friend Tanya. Almost 7 years ago, I asked her to move out to LA and work with me. She did me the great honor of saying yes (the fact she lived in MN probably had something to do with her excitement). She designed my website, organized the Financial Literacy Awareness Carnival and helps The Heavy Purse run smoothly. This week she was over at Tackling Our Debt sharing her Caramel Brownies and Best Grocery Shopping Tip. Check it out, unless you’re on a diet. 🙂

And don’t forget to enter the Summer Lovin’ Giveaway before it ends on July 21st.

Wow, I definitely didn't expect to see Chicago as the #1 summer vacation destination. And I can't believe Boston was left off! Thanks for the shout out Shannon. Enjoy the weekend!

Nice to see Atlanta in the top ten. There are many fun things to here. I definitely recommend people do at least one cruise in their lifetime. I've been on several and they are a blast. Thanks for the link love this week Shannon. Have a great weekend!

Having lived in both Chicago & San Diego, I believe I'd have to switch the two. San Diego is just too perfect to not have up there - but of course, Nicole is from there so I may be just A BIT biased. ;) Thanks for the mention Shannon, I really appreciate it! Have a great weekend!

That's a neat infographic. I can't believe Minneapolis is left off of the list. Summer is a gorgeous time to visit the city as it's about the only time there is good weather. Oh well, I don't normally think of traveling to big cities when I think of summer vacations. We usually head to the small towns and enjoy one of our many lakes.

Minneapolis is a beautiful city. I have spent plenty of time in the city for work, although I am less in love with the city during the winter. :) Have a great weekend!

Hi Shannon! I am not sure why Dallas made the list. Who would want to come to Texas in the summer? Hello! Perhaps I was in the wrong area on the one trip I've been, but I don't plan on returning to Dallas.

I'm not sure why northern destinations aren't more popular. How about a nice 80 degree, no humidity day? I do miss is the cool evenings in summer.

Leaving vacation days unused? Yikes, not in this house. :-) I was over at Tanya's post - those brownies are one of our top family faves here - aren't they incredible? Have a great weekend, my friend. :-)

Interesting infographic. The funny thing is that I don't have any desire to vacation in any of those 10 cities. That is not a vacation to me. I really appreciate the mention Shannon. I hope you have had a good weekend so far.
