Happy Labor Day

Happy Labor Day | www.TheHeavyPurse.com

Once we celebrate Labor Day, it always signals the start of Fall to me. The girls are back in school and the weather begins to cool down. But not too much for us here in Southern California! 🙂 It’s my favorite time of the year, so I’m going to enjoy spending time with my family instead of laboring today. It’s my hope that you’ll be able to enjoy some down-time today as well.

Like most of you, I started working when I was child. First, little jobs around the house for some extra money to my first “real” job as a teenager that came with a check and the reality of taxes. I feel truly blessed to have such passion around the work I do as a Certified Financial Planner and here on The Heavy Purse. And on those rare days that I don’t, I remind myself …

A hundred times every day I remind myself that my inner and outer life depend on the labors of other men, living and dead, and that I must exert myself in order to give in the same measure as I have received and am still receiving. Albert Einstein

We are the product of our own decisions, but we are also not an island. Our lives are shaped and made better by the hard work and sacrifices of others, and we should certainly equal their commitment and hope our hard work makes their lives better too.

Since almost everyone I know wants to create wealth, myself included, I’ll leave you with this food for thought …

Without labor, nothing prospers. Sophocles

When you look under the hood of prosperity, you see all the hard work that went into creating it, even if outward appearances make it look easy. Even with passive income, there is still hard work being done, just, perhaps, not by you. While hard work does not guarantee wealth, I have rarely seen prosperity occur without hard work and commitment at its foundation.

Happy Labor Day to those celebrating the holiday today!

Ha we have similar minds today. Unfortunately I'm laboring. Sometimes with freelancing the work dictates your social life and when you can have it…sometimes that means it falls on holidays. Although I do take the major ones off. :) It all somehow balances out. BTW, not happy the heat is back. GRRR, loved those 70's for awhile!

I am NOT loving the heat either and normally it doesn't bother me. But when you're unpacking boxes, it gets hot fast!

Beautiful quote, Shannon! I really appreciate it in particular but I also really like how you always incorporate the holidays and seasons in your posts - they're always timely. I hope you and your family have a great day!

I am SO thankful that I learned the value of hard work with my first job at 14 years old. Over the years I have missed out on "fun" because I had to work but I know that all of the times that I missed have only added to the fun I got to have in other places because I work hard. Today I am doing a little resting and working but I'm excited for Will to go back to school full time so I don't feel so guilty about working when he's home. :-)

The girls went back to school at the end of August, which is nice. I love spending time with them, but it does make me feel guilty some days too. I am also grateful that my parents instilled such a strong work ethic in me. It's truly made a difference.

Nice quotes, Shannon! Happy Labor Day! I was still laboring on that day and very happy about it.

Thanks, Jayson! Nothing wrong with laboring on Labor Day. I was laboring too, just at home! :)

"Our lives are shaped and made better by the hard work and sacrifices of others, and we should certainly equal their commitment and hope our hard work makes their lives better too." Great quote! I don't think we stop and recognize how much we indirectly benefit from the hard work others do and have done in the past.

Thanks, DC. It really struck a chord with me too. We do indirectly benefit for the work of so many people. It's humbling when I think of how many people make my life better through their hard work. I can only hope that I am doing the same for them.
