Empowering Mothers Benefits Brunch

Empowering Mothers Benefits Brunch with Christine Havey Smith, Shannon Ryan and Stephanie Dreyer

Kids weren’t originally part of our plan. My husband and I were focused on our careers and our shared passion for travel. For many years, we were very happy with it being just the two of us. But over time, we found our attitude towards parenthood begin to change, and we began wondering if being a Mom and Dad was something we wanted to experience too. Eventually, we were blessed with two beautiful daughters who amaze us every day. I am so grateful that I was able to experience the role of motherhood. But let me tell you … it’s not rainbows and butterflies every day either.

There were days when I had been up all night with a fussy baby and puke in my hair and no idea when was the last time I showered because the days all rolled together. Moments where I wanted to cry along with my baby. And sometimes it is in those moments when you gain the greatest clarity. This is what happened to my good friend, Christine Havey Smith, author of From Three Feet Off the Ground.

From Three Feet Off the Ground by Christine Havey Smith

Three Feet Off the Ground by Christine Havey SmithOne significant day, tensions bring Christine to the floor, and the go-getter girl sees how she has misplaced pieces of herself in the midst of motherhood. Suddenly all she wants is to explore the possibility of being instead of trying to be everything. Join Christine as she follows her toddlers in a humbling yearlong lesson on how to see the world. It is the heart song of a mother making life-changing discoveries with a view from three feet off the ground. She sets out wanting to remember what it means to be amazed, be free, be attentive, be present and love without limits. What she experiences is the spiritual discovery of herself.

Empowering Mothers Benefits Brunch

I loved her beautifully written book and drew inspiration from her illuminating story, which is why I am so honored to join Christine at the Empowering Mothers Benefits Brunch. This special event celebrates mothers and will help you redefine your sense of self-worth, your relationship with your finances and your outlook on healthy living.

Date: May 17, 2014
Time: 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM
Location: Tin Roof Bistro’s Event Room in Manhattan Beach, CA
Cost: $25.00 proceeds benefit Good Shepherd Shelter in Los Angeles

You’ll enjoy a great meal and a lively presentation from myself, Christine and Stephanie Dreyer. Plus, you will have a chance to connect with other moms and daughters.

The proceeds from the event will benefit the Good Shepherd Shelter where women and children go to rebuild and relearn after escaping abuse. The shelter provides a fully stocked and furnished apartment for women and children who need a safe home while they rebuild their lives. And when these women and children are ready to go out on their own, they take everything in the apartment with them to help make the transition a bit easier. It’s an amazing organization and one that I am happy to support. You can learn more about them at the Good Shepherd Shelter website.

Join Us as We Celebrate Mothers

For more information about the event and to purchase tickets, visit Christine’s website. And be sure to check out her book, Three Feet Off the Ground, too. It would make a great Mother’s Day gift!

I appreciate you helping me spread the world about the brunch and hope that any of you living in the LA area can come celebrate mothers with us. I’d certainly love to meet you!

Sounds like a good event and a great cause! Speaking of mothers, one of our close friends had her first baby just a couple nights ago! We also got to meet another couple we're friends with baby for the first time this week. My Facebook feed is about 50% baby pics....

Thanks, DC! I'm really looking forward to it. Ah, yes, babies quickly take over Facebook feeds! Easy way to keep people updated and over-updated! :)

That sounds like a wonderful event! It's so true that there are times where you forget what day it is and also days where you want to cry along with your baby. But these little ones are such amazing gifts and they also teach you a lot about yourself. Looks like an excellent book.

Looks like a good book and an awesome cause Shannon! I remember those times where you just want to cry with the little one and many days we wish we had those days back as they're growing SO fast. But, they're worth every second of it. :) Have a great weekend Shannon!

So true, John! One moment we can wait for them to get big and the next we're wondering when did they get so big! They are definitely worth every second of it! :) I hope you had a great weekend too!

The Good Shepherd Center sounds like a great ministry to these hurting women. Abuse is such a huge issue in our culture and it's always nice to hear of organizations like this ready to stand in the gap to assist those who need help.

It's a great organization, Brian. I'm thrilled to support them as they do great work. Abuse is a huge problem and Good Shepherd does a great job of helping women and children get back on their feet.

Adding to GoodReads! Can't make it out to CA, but will definitely read it. I've totally been there...and realizing others have been there, too, is sometimes the greatest source of strength.

As a landlord, I see domestic abuse sometimes. It is never good, for that household, or the ones along side of it. For me, I do not let the abuser stay. The victim can stay, assuming that have enough money. When I was more of a low-income landlord, there was quite a bit more abuse. Lower credit score people have a higher incidence of abuse too, in my unscientific experiences.

    Good job on the event!

I'm sure you do, which is terribly sad. I'm grateful that there organizations like Good Shepherd who can help women and children recover and move forward.
