Celebrating Martin Luther King Jr.

Martin Luther King, Jr

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr., I wanted to celebrate and recognize a man whose efforts changed our world. Somedays, you may feel small and insignificant and wonder how you can bring change in this world. I know I do. It seems impossible for your voice to be heard. But remember, Dr. King and his dream of a better world. We’re still not there, but because of his vision, we know where we need to go.

Dr. King helped reshape a nation and his words continue to inspire us.

Martin Luther King Jr Quotes #infographic

These are all great words to live by as we pursue our dreams. Dreams and goals may need constant tending but we can achieve them as long we do the work and do not lose hope.

We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Thank you for showing us the power of dreams, Dr. King.

Great quotes, Shannon! My daughter was supposed to have today off of school for a teacher's work day, but ended up going since they had a few snow days off. They are having a Martin Luther King remembrance day instead.

Snow days is something that I don't have to typically deal with. :) It's too bad your daughter lost her day off but I'm glad they are still doing something to honor MLK.

Love the inspirational quotes Shannon. He has impacted so many and his life ended too soon. I wonder if race relations would be more improved today if he had been able to spread his message of hope and love for a longer period of time.

It's such a shame that he life was ended so early and violently. I imagine if he was still alive today that he would absolutely be spreading his message of love and tolerance.

Love the quotes Shannon! It makes me wonder what our society would be like today if we had more like him.

Thanks, John. We certainly need more people like him and it's certainly reminder to be more loving and accepting.

I like the "faith is taking the first step…" quote! I've never heard that one before but it's so true.

It's a great that I was unfamiliar with too. And it's very true. It's always easier when we can see every step we need to take but something we have to go on faith and trust that every step will present itself too.

I love all of the quotes!! Especially the one about moving forward. It's not always easy, but it's the only way we can improve ourselves and our lives.

I love that one too, Shannon. It's so easy to get stuck or stagnant, but we must move forward if want to reach our dreams and goals.

I was trying to explain what a civil rights activist was to my daughter this morning. I almost gave up but I think she finally understood that he worked so "brown people" could do the same things as white people. She doesn't really see any difference, so I think it's still a little lost at this point. I'm sure some families still are very racist. I grew up in the south where it's still pretty common, but I'm happy that she has no idea that there is anything different between people, even if they look different on the outside.

I love that she couldn't see the difference in people based on color. That's a great testament to you and Jim. It's sad that people still judge based on color of skin, but hopefully more children will grow up like your daughter where they don't see skin color as a difference to be judged.

    Hi Shannon,

I love these quotes. My favorite is "I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear".

This is a beautiful way to pay tribute to a great man.

One of my favorite quotes too, Corina. I wish everyone could take that sentiment to heart. The world would be a much kinder place.

Beautiful quotes, and they're all very true and inspirational. I especially liked "Forgiveness is not an occasional act, but a constant attitude." I've been trying to incorporate that, as well as gratitude, into my life more. =) Thanks for sharing these, Shannon!

Gratitude is such an important attitude and something I try to incorporate every day into my life as well, Erin. And forgiveness, much like gratitude, is something we do need to strive for every day too.
