Blog Round-Up: Week of October 7, 2013

blog roundup

We experienced some “weather” in Southern California this week. It rained. It was sort of a big deal. Sure, a few raindrops might not cause panic where you live or be the top news story, but here, in LA, it’s big news. And it was cold. In the 60’s, I think. 🙂 But I’m not complaining. Yet.

Before you think I’m strange—I’m not the only who thinks rain is big news.

We needed the rain and it’s definitely a sign that winter is just around the corner. 🙂

The Heavy Purse was mentioned by The Frugal Farmer, Disease Called Debt, Canadian Budget Binder and The I’m Every Woman Weekly Issue. Thank you for your support and if I missed you, please let me know.

A Few Good Reads

Grab a cup of coffee or beverage of your choice and enjoy my top picks from this past week.

Matt over at Mom and Dad Money had a great series on Buying a Vehicle that concluded this week. He covers all the bases from deciding what vehicle you want to negotiating for the best price—via email! If you are in the market for a new vehicle in the near future, be sure to read Matt’s series first.

Hayley at Disease Called Debt recommended Don’t Wait to Pay Off Your Debt. She debunks two common assumptions that many people in debt use as a reason (or excuse) to wait to pay off debt. I’ll give you a hint—both are rarely true.

Mr. CBB from Canadian Budget Binder shared some great Grocery Store Activities for Kids as part of his weekly grocery game challenge. It isn’t always convenient to take kids shopping, but grocery stores offer plenty of teaching opportunities that we should use to our advantage.

Jen, aka The Happy Homeowner, shared How a Trip Around the World Changed My Views on Life and Money. This is a fantastic read and a good reminder that your happiness is only dependent on the amount of money you have if you choose it to be that way.

And finally, big congratulations to my good friend, Cat, at Budget Blonde, who shared some great news with us in My Life Altering Two for One Deal. Cat, you are about to embark on an exciting new journey and it will be the best “job” you have ever had. 🙂

And that’s a wrap for this week, everyone. Enjoy your weekend!

Thanks for mentioning my post Shannon, I really appreciate it! I wll check out the other posts I haven't read yet shortly! Glad you've had 'weather' this week over in Southern California. We're experiencing a little too much 'weather' here in the UK right now. I'm putting an extra jumper on and officially turning the heating back on today!

Ohhhh...I suppose you would much rather have rain than snow ... at least for a little bit longer! I've been to Minneapolis plenty of times for work and got to enjoy some of your beautiful winter weather. :) You have a great weekend too!

LOL, funny, Matt. :-) Let's just remember that it's all relative, although you and I will be praying for 60 and rain come January. :-) Seriously, though, Shannon, thanks for the mention. Have a wonderful weekend, despite the traumatizing weather. :-)

Lol, I always had to laugh in San Diego when we'd get "rain". ;) We'd get a few drops and people just didn't know what to do (As I imagine most in the Midwest would be with an earthquake), I guess it's just further proof that it's all relative. It's the usual fall here in Omaha - we had mid 80's and mid 30's within two days of each other. Hope you have a great weekend Shannon!

Rain just throws us off! We needed it and I was just glad that I have a very short commute these days! While we have been quite so cold, our temps have been all over the place too. You have a great weekend too, John!

Haha, not gonna lie, it was kind of stressful driving in that rain that lasted a whole day. ;) Super great reads, Shannon, I hope you have a great (and warm) weekend!
